Alyssa is a dedicated speech-language pathologist (SLP) with a diverse background in various healthcare settings, including acute care, skilled nursing facilities, in patient rehabilitation, neurology clinics, and home health. With a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to client-centered care, Alyssa decided to establish her own practice to prioritize after witnessing firsthand the changes and shortcomings of larger healthcare companies.
Driven by a passion for improving the lives of individuals with neurological disorders, Alyssa's practice is founded on the principles of personalized care, evidence-based practice, and compassionate support. She firmly believes that every person deserves individualized attention and treatment tailored to their unique needs and goals.
Alyssa's expertise spans a wide range of areas from acquired brain injuries (strokes, TBIs) to progressive disorders such as dementia. In addition, to achieving her Master’s degree from the University of South Florida, Alyssa has undergone extensive continuing education and training including courses related to her areas of interest - post concussion syndrome, traumatic brain injuries and progressive neurological disorders primarily dementia and Parkinson's disease.
One of Alyssa's primary areas of focus is brain injuries, where she has observed firsthand the profound multifaceted impact on cognitive communication skills which effects social interactions, family, academic, workplace and community communications even in cases diagnosed as "mild." Her approach emphasizes comprehensive education on diagnoses, strengths, and challenges, along with evidence-based interventions tailored to each individual's needs to speed up recovery and promote a return to baseline activities.
Courses have include specific certifications for post concussion and brain injury treatment as well as courses taught by renowned dementia expert Teepa Snow with Positive Approach to Care. Drawing from this knowledge, Alyssa integrates innovative and evidence based strategies into her care to promote reintegration into the community, workplace and academics for clients recovering from concussions, brain injuries and strokes. In regards to progressive neurological disorders Alyssa strives to help individuals maintain individuals independence/skills for as long as possible while enhancing the quality of life.
Additionally, Alyssa is SPEAK OUT! certified which is a research backed treatment to improve speech, voice and swallowing for individuals with PD and has taken several courses taught by renowned dementia expert Teepa Snow with Positive Approach to Care. Drawing from this knowledge, Alyssa integrates innovative strategies into her care to help individuals with progressive neurological disorders maintain independence/skills for as long as possible while enhancing the quality of life.
In addition to direct therapy, Alyssa is committed to empowering caregivers through education and support, equipping them with the tools and knowledge to promote optimal outcomes and facilitate carryover of skills to extend beyond the treatment session.
Outside of her professional pursuits, Alyssa finds joy in traveling the world with her husband Anthony, spending time with family and friends, cheering on New York's sports teams, staying active physically through exercise and outdoor activities, and spiritually through bible study and church involvement.
